The Friends are pleased to sponsor programs which support the library in a variety of ways. All programs are free of charge and open to interested community members.
Friends’ Night Out is a monthly event for our adult population. All session are held from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. and feature various topics of interest. We run the full gamut of themes in order to appeal to the wide range of interests of our attendees. Each September, for example, we partner with the Daughters of the American Revolution to acknowledge Constitution Day. We have also offered presentations on Clifton's Orphan Train, The Art of the Presidency, First Ladies and have featured numerous authors. Some sessions are hands-on; learning technology skills, making sugar skulls for Day of the Dead, and paper crafting. Many local organizations have offered presentations of their services: Gila Watershed Partnership and Freeport-McMoRan Inc. And, we serve snacks! Watch for announcements of dates and times of our offerings. We’d love to have you join us! This event is hosted in the Safford City-Graham County Library Annex.
This meeting is held on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. unless rescheduled because of holidays. We call it OPEN Book Club because it is OPEN to any adult interested in sharing or just listening. The format is also OPEN, in that we do not assign a monthly book. Instead, members read whatever they want and share whatever they want. It’s a wonderful way to broaden your literary horizons. In a given evening, you may hear about historical fiction, a biography, a mystery novel, science fiction, or poetry. Or someone may share an interesting magazine article. There are no rules. Attendance is fluid. Just show up! This is a lot of fun!
The Friends are pleased to partner with Gila Valley Arts Council to sponsor free daytime performances for interested community members. We are looking forward to sharing the 2024-25 performance season with you. It includes Chen & Galbraith (Chinese Pipa and classical guitar), The Swingles (vocal group), Carion Wind Quintet, and MusiKaravan (string trio).
We are pleased to join other non-profits to support the Early Literacy Concert Series. This program brings a children's author/entertainer to our young children (from birth through 2nd grade) in Graham and Greenlee Counties each spring for a 3-4 day residency. It is pure joy to see this audience totally engaged in this interactive experience. Kudos to Elizabeth Henley, Early Literacy Coordinator, for dreaming the dream and bringing it to life in rural Arizona.
